4 years have passed since I first joined Ishihara Lab. As a practically non-Japanese speaking foreigner, things were pretty challenging at first and not exactly all smooth sailing. Yet, I must say there were overwhelming assistance from every lab members which I’m more than grateful despite the language barrier. Expertise-wise, I’m blessed with the guidance, skills and vast knowledge of Ishihara sensei, other senseis and every single one of the lab members. This is a very huge lab comprises of close to 50+ members working in amongst others development of high performance SOFC and SOEC electrodes and electrolytes, Li-based battery, exhaust catalyst, photocatalyst, gas sensor, microbial hydrogen production and in not too distant future, perovskite solar cell. For those coming from western-background education, culture-shock is abound for the workload and work rate here is mind-boggling. Yet, passing through all those hardships, those sleepless night after night, after 3-4 years? B.l.i.s.s.f.u.l.
