Career Prospects and Job Markets
What are the career prospects after graduation?
Areas where the Function Class of Applied Chemistry Course graduates actively participate have expanded rapidly in recent years. Chemistry for studying the creation and transformation of matter and energy, as well as the field of bio, has always had an important role as the bedrock supporting science, technology and society. In recent years, the industry's structure has become complex, and the interdisciplinarity of science and technology is accelerating rapidly. Environmental issues have also been highlighted, and researchers and engineers who are acquainted with various areas of expertise and can see things from a broader perspective are in demand. To respond to such needs of society, the Function Class of the Applied Chemistry Course has prepared an educational menu with advanced expertise and diversity. It is committed to cultivating human resources who can contribute to society. It is evident from the chart, which summarizes the place of employment of the graduates, that people who have been trained in the Function Class are sought by such diverse areas.
Over 2,500 graduates of Applied Chemistry Function have been working actively not only in traditional chemical engineering (organic and inorganic basic materials, petrochemistry, textile and papermaking, fine ceramics, pharmaceuticals, etc.) but also in various industrial fields such as electricals, electronics, machinery, and automobiles.
It is also characteristic of the Function Class that it has been turning out many graduates who are actively serving in top positions as leaders of the financial world and presidents of top universities transcending the area of research and development in industry, academia, and government, reflecting the long tradition and education of cultivating human resources with a broad perspective.

In recent years, more than ninety percent of the graduates have advanced to the Graduate School’s Master’s Course to study more advanced learning and technology and have left the nest as engineers and researchers serving as key societal players.
Many graduates have advanced to the Doctoral Course and developed into the world’s top researchers. The chart below lists some of the recent places of employment for graduates of the Bachelor’s and Master’s courses. They mainly consist of the manufacturing industry. However, some have joined the information industry utilizing their interests and the service-related industries such as finance, insurance, and education. Many graduates have been involved with the government or research as civil or local public servants. The number of graduates engaged with teaching and research in national, public, and private universities and various research institutes is also increasing.
